Bank statement underwriting

Understand the cash moving through a borrower’s accounts. SpreadSpace supports Plaid and Finicity data aggregation uploads for cash flow analysis. Review operating activity, shareholder distributions and financing relationships, then carry the supporting evidence into debt-service and global cash flow analysis.

What you can underwrite

Review cash flow across the period

Bring business and personal bank statements into the loan review. Compare inflows, outflows and daily balances across the months provided, then open the transactions behind a change. Counterparty detail helps the analyst distinguish operating payments, transfers, owner activity and financing.

Track shareholder distributions

Review payments to identified shareholders, including the guarantor, and compare year-to-date activity with distributions reported on the tax returns. The underlying transactions stay available when the analyst evaluates seasonal draws, one-off payments and the current distribution pace.

Investigate financing relationships

Review advances and repayments associated with merchant cash advances, accounts receivable factoring and revenue-based financing. Follow the payment pattern and supporting transactions to understand the relationship before deciding how it belongs in the credit analysis.

Bring the evidence into debt service

Compare financing activity with the borrower’s debt schedule. Add relevant obligations through analyst write-ins, then review historical coverage or proposed debt service alongside the business and personal returns. The analyst controls the assumptions used in the final analysis.

A payment description starts the review

In this sample statement, one payment names a retirement plan and another describes tooling. SpreadSpace brings the transaction detail into the counterparty review so an analyst can inspect who was paid and why before treating an outflow as an operating expense, owner payment or financing obligation.

Bring bank aggregator data into SpreadSpace

Already receive bank data through an aggregator API? SpreadSpace accepts supported Plaid and Finicity transaction data as JSON uploads. Upload the response from your provider to bring the available account details, transaction dates, descriptions and amounts into your bank statement analysis.

SpreadSpace organizes the uploaded transactions by month and brings them into the same cash flow and counterparty review used for bank statements. Review deposits, withdrawals and financing activity, then inspect the transactions behind the analysis.

Please consult your bank data API partner’s Master Services Agreement (MSA) before uploading their data. Confirm that your agreement allows data obtained through their API to be uploaded to other software as a service (SaaS) platforms, such as SpreadSpace.
